Why Mythos?

Why would I name my business “Mythos Massage”? Well, the most basic answer is, because I can. That’s one of the pros of starting your own business. It’s also a con, because let me tell you, I struggled with the name. I am not new to massage therapy and my experience (personally and professionally) has really made it clear that my passion lies in the mental health benefits of massage therapy. Yes, I love to help someone get a stubborn knot loosened up and it is satisfying to help someone increase their range of motion. But that isn’t what motivates me to show up. It’s the exhausted new mom who desperately needs a moment to herself. It’s the person struggling with insomnia, who just needs some actual rest. It’s for you, who doesn’t think they are worth it but are the worthiest of it. Mythos Massage is a place to rest and to say “YES” to yourself. It’s airplane rules around here people: put on your own oxygen mask before trying to help others. I love mythology of all kinds (if you ever can’t afford tip money, send me your favorite mythic story!). My love of myths started with all the Gods of Olympus. I just love so much of the idea of people from that age not knowing why we have seasons, so they just decided it was because a temperamental Goddess. We’ve all got some mythological energy in us, so let’s make offerings to the power inside us for a bountiful harvest. So many things in life, we just can’t explain. There are no real reasons for some tragedies, and I love the idea of making our own stories. Mythos is about the story we are telling ourselves and I hope to have a positive impact on your narrative. It isn’t about what is “real”, it is about how we FEEL. Maybe I can pretend to be one of those people who guards the temple and directs the blessings outward. Or a witch doctor. In reality, I am just a regular and average human being, but at Mythos, I can change the world for the better, one client at a time.
